A Visitor Comment:

"Neighbors ask me about what Andrew was like, and all I can tell them is it was the most frightening experience of my life.

I just wanted to thank you for keeping the pictures on your website, they remind me of how fragile we really are."
John Stephens

DeadlyStorms.com
Proud to be the NUMBER ONE Independent
Hurricane & Tropical Storm Site On The Web
Continuously Published Since 1995!

This website chronicles the deadliest tropical storms, hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones of America's history, from 1495, to Galveston of 1900, to the present projected deadliest of all time:  Hurricane Katrina.

We are expanding the website significantly, and thank you for your patience, comments, support, and donations!.  We started as a comprehensive site devoted to Hurricane Andrew in 1995.  However, Andrew - bad as it was, was not the only major storm.  Therefore, we are adding every deadly storm from 1851 onwards.  Each new section will provide detailed information, images and photos, and maps and tracks, of each major hurricane, cyclone, typhoon, or tropical storm.

This site is intended to educate and remind us of how deadly these storms really are.  The creator of this site, himself, is a survivor of 9 hurricanes, including:  Hurricanes: Andrew, David, Hugo, Frances, Charlie, and others; and knows first hand that knowledge is your best defense against a major storm.

HURRICANE FACT:
The most intense storm on record was a typhoon in the northwest Pacific Ocean in October 1979, which logged a central pressure of 870 millibars. Hurricane Gilbert, which struck Mexico in mid-September 1988, is the most intense for the Atlantic basin, with an estimated 888-millibar lowest pressure.

OUR MISSION:
DeadlyStorms.com's mission is to remind you that it CAN happen to you, and that you can make it through and survive, with proper planning and precaution.

WARNING:
No matter how well you prepare, if you are in a low lying coastal area, or one that is prone to storm surge flooding - GET OUT and evacuate inland to higher ground.  You can typically survive high winds, but as we have seen in New Orleans and countless other places, it is the storm surge and flooding that is the most deadly!
